- Aklys is a club with thongs, favored mainly by the barbarians. In some parts of the world, it is also called the ankus, which is an elephant goad. It is a three-foot to four-foot staff with a metal hook and point at one end. The aklys was intended to be both a tool and a weapon, and some were used as elaborate ceremonial pieces.
