An area is a set of rooms, exits, monsters, and their associated equipment. One or several coders design and populate an area with monsters and equipment and may continue to be responsible for maintaining it with respect to bugs and other issues. On BatMUD you usually enter an area at a special location displayed by a ? on both maps and to the character's view. Not all areas are marked, for example Norse village on the eastern coast of Rothikgen and Troglodyte Village in the swamps in the west of Lucentium are not.
