Gauntlet

A gauntlet is a glove worn with armour to protect the hand. It can be spiked (cestus), leather, mailed or plated. The nobles used to wear wide-sleeved leather gauntlets in their everyday work. The expression 'throwing down the gauntlet' means to issue a chllange.
