SKULL

A skull is a skeleton of the head of a vertebrate forming a bony or 
cartilaginous case that encloses and protects the brain and chief sense
organs and supports the jaws. Open your mouth and go 'baa.' Point your 
finger towards the sound. That's your skull. Alas, it is covered beneath
and filled with repulsive organic material. 

In the case of an armour, the skull can be one from a larger animal and
head-worn.
