- A buckler, is a small round shield of wood or metal that fastens to the forearm. It used to be worn by crossbowmen and archers with no hindrance to their attacks with their chosen weapons.
- The second-smallest shield used, it is usually not more than a foot in diameter. Its small size makes it easy to carry, but it is of its limited usefulness against anything except fencing weapons.
