SCYTHE (polearm)

        In its original form, the scythe is an
agricultural tool used to cut grains or tall
grasses. It consists of a thick haft with
a slight double-curve (º), typically (but not
always) with two small handles jutting out
for better grip. At the end of the scythe's
haft is a long, curved blade, at least half as
long as the haft itself. What makes the scythe
so different from other polearms is the 
position of the blade, emerging perpendicular
from the haft. 
        A scythe weapon is built more or less
the same as a scythe tool, but is typically
even heavier, has a larger blade, and the tip
of the blade may be sharpened. They are used
to make great, slashing wounds. Scythes are
often associated with the Grim Reaper and other
images of death.
        Because of its construction, the scythe is 
one of the shortest polearmes available. It 
does not have the reach of the pike or the
halberd. It is, however, considerably faster
than most weapons of its type.
