A Codex is a book that you can read which will give you a temporary boost in a skill. If a monster drops a codex it can be sold and used by someone else. If you look at a codex it will show the skill it teaches if it is a skill you have some training in. Codexes are an item that may be sold at general stores. Merchants prize chest creation codexes as they are useful in acquiring the highest levels of the skill.
