Some guilds can use a mount to improve their combat prowess and to make overland travel faster and safer.

Mount Types

Basically any generic outerworld creature can be tamed, but not nearly all of them are that useful. Some of the most popular mounts include:

  • Griffons - can fly
  • Solar Griffons
  • Chimeras - balk at water
  • Chaos Drakes
  • Fire Drakes
  • Ice Drakes

Mounts can also have age adjectives, e.g. Adult, Ancient.

Skill Bonuses

Mounts grant a size bonus and a bonus to Attack, Dodge, Parry and Throw weight. The amount of bonus depends on the type of mount and the percentage of your Combat riding skill. Additionally, Tzarakk mounts may give a bonus to Polearms skill as well.

Mount Equipment

  • A bridle or tether is necessary for leading a mount.
  • A saddle is optional
  • Saddlebags let you carry your loot.

Some gear that mount users might want includes:

Mount gear made for a mount of one size or type can be resized and adjusted to fit a new mount via the Refit mount gear skill. Ask your friendly merchant or beastmaster for help with that.

Riding Underground

Beastmasters get the ride underground skill that allows them to, unsurprisingly, ride underground. Actually ride underground allows larger mounts that can't normally ride underground to go there. Smaller griffons and chimeras can go underground.

Stables

Mounts can be stored at stables.

Taming Mounts

Nearly all outworld creatures can be tamed and lead around. Many of them can also be ridden. You can't tame area creatures except for a few carefully chosen exceptions. Only Beastmasters get an appreciable amount of the Tame mount skill.

Gear that helps with taming mounts can be found.

List of mounts

"Look at tether," the simple rope tether one buys from the trainer at the beastmaster guild returns a list of "mount races. See "list of mount races".
