| The martial artist is taught early on in his training to be completely aware of his environment. This includes the battlefield. By being aware of the events around him during a battle, he is able to predict actions of his opponents. This allows him to avoid attacks with ease, since he really doesn't have to think about it, it is just his insticts kicking in and taking over.
