| Before more complex maneuvers may be learned, it is important to know the basics. In the case of legionaries, it usually means long days of shield combat training or simply known as 'manner of lordliness'. When the manner or lordliness is mastered, more difficult maneuvers may be performed. One of those more challenging maneuvers is metal fist. Simply put, the enemy rarely expects a smashing blow inflicted by the off-hand and rather expects a blow from the sword-hand. Using the element of surprise, legionaries of Kharim are sometimes able to punch the enemy with their shield. While shield is not as dangerous as a sharp blade, it may be effective when successfully used. Metal fist is a derivative technique of riposte which means that proficiency in riposte will also help when punching with the metal fist.
