There is a factor called 'luck' in BatMUD.

There is no way of finding out how this mysterious attribute actually affects your character. However atleast skills, spells and some abilities seem to work better every now and then. Luck is not a normal variable, it is not displayed in your score nor may any items or monsters narrate it or its value to you. Praying at the statue of your racial shrine might give some insight on your current luck.

Many stories and rumors are told about luck. Perhaps the best known rumour about it is that some events and sacrificing items at your race shrine can affect luck positively. Some events, dying and sitting in your castle room and not playing (aka "idling") can affect your luck negatively. It is also said that only bards of all mortals can temporarily affect your luck.
