Gems
Gems can be created with the Gem cutting skill or found for sale in various shops or as random treasure. All gemstone material types will give a gem when gem cut (if successful) of varying size. The size of the gem is dependant on gem cutting skill level, Dexterity, and Luck.
There are 3 gemstones that cannot be gem cut by using their material type, as their material isn't a gemstone material type. Ambers, Hematites, and Moonstones. These gem types can only be gem cut by using Weenite, which yields a gemstone of a random type when gem cut.
As mentioned above, cut gems come in various sizes, below is a table showing the sizes, ranked by value if sold in a General Store. You will note that some sizes have been listed with the same color text as another adjacent size. This is simply a reflection of General Store pricing these gems at the same value. It could be taken that these gems are the same 'size' as equivalently priced gems.
One other note regarding gems. Be sure to look at the gem. If it shows "It is damaged." in the description it acts as a lower value gem. You can use the Repair item skill on these damaged gems to make them not damaged.
